Irreversible two compartmental model describing the kinetics of 18F-FDG used to evaluate lung inflammation. In the absence of significant oedema, the concentration of 18F-FDG in a ROI in the lung can be described by three compartments [9]: a blood compartment Cb(t), an extravascular pre-cursor pool Ce(t) and phosphorylated (’trapped’) 18F-FDG compartment Cp(t). The relationships between the concentration of tracer in a compartment is described by the rate constants (i.e. K1,k2,k3). ROI = Region of Interest
